For the past few weeks, I’ve been diving deep into the world of music-theater with the Nautilus Composer-Librettist Studio, writing 5 new music theater pieces with 5 stellar local composers, ranging from operetta to jazzy torch songs and a bunch of stuff in between. Joining me on this creativity roller coaster are fellow writers Katherine Glover, Nicole Mary Milligan, Eric “Pogi” Sumangil, and Elle Toni; composers Stephanie Brill, Sarah Joy Bruce, Keith Hovis, Ben Larson, and Daniel Nass; and performers Anna Baker, Gary Briggle, Jen Burleigh Bentz, Cathy Fuller, and Daniel Greco. It’s a killer room, guys. I’ve had my socks knocked off so many times the last two weeks I should wear extra pairs.
“But, Rachel,” you say, “I am but a person looking at a thing on the internet. How do I get my socks knocked off too?”
Easy, I reply. Come to Rough Cuts, Nautilus Music-Theater‘s regular showcase of new works in progress! There are two chances to catch a sampling of what we’ve been collaborating on:
Monday, November 13, 7:30 PM at Nautilus Music-Theater Studio in Lowertown St. Paul
Tuesday, November 14, 7:30 PM at Walker Community Church in Minneapolis
Email Staff@nautilusmusictheater.org to reserve a spot, it’s $5 or pay-as-able.
As a sneak preview, in the piece we’re presenting today, I rhymed “perineum” with “O’Keefe museum.”
Clearly all the opera influence is classing me up. Come hear us!
